Males have a black abdomen paired with blue and yellow spots on each side in symmetry (as opposed to the brown color in females). They are distinguished from other hawkers by the yellow costa, its wings' major veins along the leading edge. They are commonly found in boreal and alpine areas and tend to be hunt in tree canopies around acidic to neutral water bodies. This was taken during mating season at Trillium Lake in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest. It only took about 100 tries to capture it midflight as they do not perch often, but rather hoover. #arthropoda #insecta #odonata #aeshnidae #dragonfly #commonhawker #trilliumlake #mthood #nationalforest #conservation #wfc #traveloregon #nofilter #naturelovers #nature #flight
