via Instagram http://ift.tt/1HfiRQI I was so fortunate today to get in this guy's taxi. Kadir drove me from the airport into downtown Chicago and it was an amazing conversation. Kadir, 24, came to this country as a refugee at the age of 6 with his mom and 4 older brothers. He's now a full time nursing student with a full time job driving. This guy works his tail off to make it happen and has plans for after his graduation to work in Dubai. This young man knows more about American history and the political system than I do and talking with him for a couple hrs gave me new perspective on refugees. Once he dropped me off at the museum he did a few short runs and gave me his number so when I needed a ride again. He picked me up, took me to my lunch destination and then returned me to the airport. It felt like I had my own personal driver for the day. What a refreshing experience in a new city.
