via Instagram http://ift.tt/1N0mYiH A miracle at 38,000' 8 hours into my 14 hour Dubai/JFK flight, a mother gave birth to her 26 week old baby with the help of a Doctor and a few flight attendants. Our A 380 was 460 nautical miles west of Iceland when the Captain decided to divert the aircraft to Keflavik. Conditions on the ground in Keflavik were deteriorating rapidly with heavy snow and high winds. Not ideal for an aircraft whose weight and size is still trying to normalize itself at larger airports. The captain outweighed the risk of landing in Keflavik and decided to divert to Gander, Canada. A few hours later a healthy mother and baby, along with an overjoyed father deplaned in Gander to receive medical treatment for the baby as it was delivered prematurely. Needless to say that there was a palpable sense of magic and awe that all on board could sense throughout the remainder of that flight. We landed at JFK a couple of hours ago with a total flight time of 19 hrs. Not a peep nor complaint was heard regarding our delay from any of the passengers.
